Sorry I haven't addressed this sooner. The whole situation has truly sickened me. A whole city is in shambles. All those people are stranded and so many have become casualties of a unthinkable situation.
My heart goes out to them. Probably this is the feeling most people relate with is Helplessness.
I wish I could do more. I wish the volunteers safety.
Wikipedia has a great source of info & links about Hurricane Katrina.

"A group of us flickr'ites have started a hub page to coordinate relief efforts for Katrina surviors. Please go to the link and help!!!! If you are even remotely computer savy, you can go and start a city group and link it to the main page. Please do this if your city is not listed. The city pages are for volunteers to hook up and post services offers. They are also for people to post needs! People can respond to offers, services, etc. Please spread this around on Craig's list and to everyone you know. There are hundreds of thousands of people who want to help and their messages are getting lost."

The song "Turning Away" By Pink Floyd , has some really good lyrics. I hope that we as a nation do not "Turn Away" or participate in the turning away from these people and this crisis.
Under the lyrics you will find a link to the 3 major charities which are supporting the relief effort.
On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
"Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away"....
.....No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?
